Public-private sector linkages stressed

Islamabad : Interactive linkages between the public and private sectors are direly needed for skills development in the country, said chairman of the National Vocational and Technical Training Commission Syed Javed Hassan on Wednesday.He was speaking at the validation workshop of Sector Skills Council - Hospitality at NAVTTC headquarters here.The NAVTTC and TVET-Sector Support Programme carried out a study to analyse demand and supply of labour market to come up with effective and efficient strategies for skill development in the country.Executive Director of the NAVTTC Dr Nasir Khan emphasized the role of Sector Skills Council in all sectors including the Hospitality Sector.He said the Sector Skills Council -Hospitality Sector will guide the NAVTTC to ensure quality training, employment opportunities, entrepreneurial ecology and ensuring socio-economic suitability through Vocational and Technical Skills in the Hospitality Sector.TVET SSP Muhammad Ali seconded the importance of the role of Sector Skills Council and added that through recommendations of Sector Skills Council-Hospitality, an effective skill development plan could be ensured.The leading industries from the Hospitality Sector participated in the workshop.TVET SSP Sonia Emaan moderated the session and updated the house regarding present and future SSC-H outcomes.During the workshop, it was strongly recommended to take necessary initiatives to make industry-led sector skills council, updating of National Skill Information System (NSIS), industry to update their demand and supply on the NAVTTC portal, small and medium restaurants be involved in future studies and analysis, quality concern in future study and last but not the least tourism eco-system.It was decided that for newly Sector Skills Council the entire sector will be covered to play a dynamic role.It was also agreed that NAVTTC and TVET SSP would provide all possible technical support to the SSC-Hospitality to ensure to play a dynamic role in quality training for employment both locally and internationally, cultivate entrepreneurial culture and enhance skill development opportunities.The validation workshop ended with the agreed decisions to streamline the sector skill council and make it more representative of the stakeholders in the hospitality sector.
