Past glory

This refers to the letter ‘Handle with care’ (March 2) by Tayyaba Nazeer. The writer has correctly painted the dismal condition of Shikarpur. I lived in this city for more than a decade in the 1950s. It was a beautiful city bubbling with vibrant life and had a busy railway station, a famous rice market and delicious sweetmeat shops. As for the historical places, Lucky Dar and Shahi Bagh were worth visiting. When I visited the city in the 1970s, I witnessed the dilapidation that had overtaken it. The railway station was deserted, heaps of refuse with stink and a ghostly appearance. I was disappointed to see the changed scenario. The elected MNAs and MPAs from the city should take measures to uplift the city and revive its past gloryProf (r) Syed Basharat AliRawalpindi
