Inflated bills

Despiteclear instructions from the PM, gas companies have increased the cost of gas being supplied to domestic consumers. Due to lack of forethought and planning, the country’s fertiliser plants have been closed. The shortage of gas has affected the very important agriculture sector of the country. This will affect the cost of fertilisers within the country and will also force the government to import additional fertilisers to meet the requirement of the agriculture sector. The unavailability of RLNG cost Rs24.2 billion for power production in January. It was equally distressing news to read about how the Tarbela-IV project caused a loss of Rs100 billion to the government. The PM must take notice of all these failures on the part of technocrats and bureaucrats take action against people responsible for these lapses. The government must follow the ‘hire and fire’ policy to ensure efficiency and good governance.Lt Col (r) Arshad Nasim QureshiIslamabad
