ISLAMABAD: A former judge of India's Supreme Court Markandey Katju said Tuesday that Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan deserved the Nobel Peace Prize for his statesman-like approach in the face of heightened tensions between Pakistan and India.During the Geo News show Capital Talk, the former judge of the apex court described the prime minister as a scholar. He pointed out that Prime Minister Imran Khan’s speech with regards to the release of Indian pilot was very impressive. Interestingly, in a tweet, Prime Minister Imran Khan said that Nobel Peace Prize should go to someone, who resolves Kashmir issue as per wishes of people of Kashmir and that he did not deserve it.He said that the Prime Minister of Pakistan talked straight that war was no solution to any issue and let us sit and talk. “His (Imran Khan) speech should be projected not only in South Asia but also through out the world,” he emphasised."Pakistan and India are poor countries and cannot afford a war," he remarked while referring to Pak-India tension. He said Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi was creating an atmosphere of war due to elections in his country. He alleged Modi was not going for a war with Pakistan but wanted to win elections.“You people of Pakistan, view Prime Minister Imran Khan only as a cricketer and a politician but the way he talked about history of wars during his speech, I can understand that he just not played cricket at Oxford University but also study history and he is a scholar,” the former Indian SC judge said.Talking about his country’s media, justice retired Katju said that the Indian media acted with irresponsibly and that 90-95 per cent media in his country was sold out while only 5 to 10 per cent was doing professional journalism. He said that if people were not listening today to their calls for dialogue, they surely will tomorrow. “And, already, now anti-war statements are coming up in India,” he pointed out.
