Five uplift schemes approved

LAHORE: The Punjab government Friday approved five development schemes of different sectors at an estimated cost of Rs 14 billion.These schemes were approved in the 18th meeting of the Provincial Development Working Party (PDWP) of the current fiscal year, 2018-19, presided over by P&D Chairman Habib-ur-Rehman Gilani.P&D Provincial Secretary Iftikhar Ali Sahoo, all members of the Planning and Development Board, the provincial secretaries concerned and other senior representatives of the relevant provincial departments attended the meeting.The approved development schemes are: Southern Punjab Poverty Alleviation Project (SPPAP), IFAD Assisted, at a cost of Rs 7.656 billion; Project Management of PICIIP Strengthening of Programme Management Unit (PMU) and City Implementation Units (CIUs) for PICIIP at a cost of Rs 555.115 million; Lahore Water and Wastewater Management Project Construction of Surface Water Treatment Plant at BRBD Canal at a cost of Rs 21,171.537 million; Rehabilitation of Dualised Road from Sargodha to Makhdoom Interchange (M2), length 42.00 km, Sargodha district (Phase-I left carriageway) (Revised) at a cost of Rs 1,859.596 million and Widening/Improvement/Reconstruction of (Phase-II) Jourian to Siral Harraka Dudhial Road, length 24.25 km, Rawalpindi, (Revised) at a cost of Rs 1,116.336 million.Spring festival endsBy Our correspondentLAHORE: The weeklong spring festival 2019 of University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences (UVAS) concluded with floral, departments’ decoration and drama competitions here on Friday.According to a press release, former Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Jawwad S. Khawaja and UVAS Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Talat Naseer Pasha co-chaired the concluding ceremony in the evening and distributed trophies among the overall winners of the festival contests.UVAS senior tutor Prof Dr Kamran Ashraf and a large number of students were present. The Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences (IPS) won the overall first position, Department of Food Science and Human Nutrition (FSHN) got second and Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) bagged third position. Former CJP Jawwad S. Khawaja said students were the real future of Pakistan. He also spoke about the importance of Urdu language for the development of society. He lauded the role of UVAS in promotion of curricular and extra-curricular activities.Prof Pasha appreciated the students’ enthusiastic participation in the festival contests. PFA: The Punjab Food Authority on Friday conducted the interviews of 400 candidates for 73 seats in 36 districts of Punjab under the Nutrition and Public Relations Internship Programme. The purpose of the programme is to provide a platform to fresh graduates to polish their skills.
