Bakhtawar Bhutto-Zardari, daughter of Benzair Bhutto paid accolades to her late mother in light of the International Women’s Day that was being celebrated on Friday. Turning to social media, the 29-year-old shed light on the struggles that came in the way of the late Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) leader and her determination to stay resilient in the face of challenges and raising three children amidst the political frenzy surrounding her. “What do you know about superheroes or #supermamas. My mother’s entire life was a struggle,” she began her post. Speaking of the loss faced by Benazir at the hands of political hostility, Bakhtawar writes: Her father was hanged on trumped up charges, herself & her mother were imprisoned in solitary confinement in Class C cells. Her youngest brother was poised & killed, her eldest brother was murdered. She kept fighting. This was our childhood, going to prisons to visit our father who was kept behind bars for 11 years on politically motivated charges to sabotage his wife’s political career. He was physically tortured during incarceration to further pressurise her.” “Despite the fear that her husband could suffer the same fate as her father and brothers - she never gave up. She raised three children throughout her turmoil. The struggles never stopped. She kept smiling,” she added.
