Iconic actor Abid Ali passed away in Karachi after suffering from a lung disease. The 67-year-old actor director and producer – born in 1952 in Quetta – spent the past two months under treatment at a private hospital in Karachi. One of Abid Ali’s three daughters, Rahma Ali, confirmed the news of his demise on social media.Known for his versatility, Abid Ali has left behind a number of memorable performances in classic drama serials such as Jhok Siyal, Zanjeer, Waris, Dasht and others. Some of his recent works include Bunty, I Love You, Diyar-e-Dil, Aangan, Dil Kiya Karey and the ongoing drama serials Mera Rab Waris and Ramz-e-Ishq.Since the news of his passing spread, fellow actors have taken to their social media accounts to mourn his loss including Faysal Qureshi, Shaan Shahid, Osman Khalid Butt, Maya Ali, Hareem Farooq and many others.Saba Qamar, who worked with Abid Ali in Bunty I Love You (2013) wrote on Instagram, “Today our industry has lost a gem. Words can surely not express the loss of Abid Ali Sir,” while Mehwish Hayat tweeted, “A great actor, a great director and above all a wonderful human being. Many fond memories of working with him. His presence in the industry will be sorely missed.”Humayun Saeed stated that Abid Ali was “a legendary actor and a man with a heart of gold.”Ali Rehman Khan, who worked with Abid Ali in Diyar-e-Dil as well as in the recently released film, Heer Maan Ja expressed his grief over the actor’s sad demise and wrote, “The world will remember you as Abid Ali Saab, the greatest of us. For me, you will always be my Agha Jaan. Farewell you lovely man.”Abid Ali’s career spans over 45 years and his contribution to the Pakistani entertainment industry is undeniable. May his soul rest in peace.
