PESHAWAR: The Pakistan Network for Quality Assurance in Higher Education in collaboration with Khyber Medical University (KMU) and University of Education (UoE) Lahore organized second International Conference on Quality Assurance in Higher Education at UoE Lahore.The network was established in 2017 during the 1st International conference on quality assurance in higher education hosted by the KMU, said a press release.The objective was to provide a broad-based platform for quality assurance in higher education institutions. The first day of the 2nd conference was reserved for pre-conference workshops by the speakers on different topics. The participants from various universities evinced a keen interest in the event. Workshops were planned on most relevant areas pertaining to quality assurance in higher education. KMU Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Arshad Javaid was the chief guest at the inaugural session. The guest of honour was Prof Dr Shafique-ur-Rehman, Adviser of Quality Assurance, Higher Education Department of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.Prof Dr Rauf-e-Azam, Vice-Chancellor, UoE Lahore, welcomed the delegates of the conference. Prof Dr Arshad Javaid emphasized the purpose of the network for the improvement of education standards with the joint efforts of all the stakeholders.Prof Dr Shafiq said that Khyber Pakhtunkhwa had introduced semester system in the colleges and launched Quality Enhancement Cells as a project of the higher education in the colleges.He said the Higher Education Department established the Quality Assurance Department in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to focus on quality education at the higher education level. Prof Dr Azam Ali Khwaja, former MD Quality Assurance Agency, HEC, expressed his views on progressing status of the quality assurance in higher education. Over 50 research papers were presented in the conference and keynote speeches were delivered by the speakers. In the closing ceremony, former advisor to the Quality Assurance Department of the HEC Riaz Ahmed Qureshi, as a chief guest, highlighted the background of quality assurance of the HEC and its scope to internationalize the programmes. He appreciated the establishment of the Pakistan Network for Quality Assurance in Higher Education and hoped the conference would provide a strong base to introduce quality culture in the higher education sector.
