Karachi's white winter

chattermatter

When the mercury in Karachi drops to a single digit, the never-ending hustle and bustle of the city slows down due to the cold winds. Anyone who visits the city - from the North side of the country or abroad - they dismiss Karachi winter as being ‘mild’ and even a ‘pleasant weather’. While, Karachi doesn’t experience any harsh winter, there’s no denying the fascination of the city dwellers with snow.

This was proved recently at the launch event of Winterland, stationed at PAF museum. An excited crowd of people flocked to the theme park to experience the world of ice and snow. Many celebrities were also spotted at the grand opening including Junaid Khan, Aiman and Minal Khan, Muneeb Butt, Yashma Gill, Fahad Mirza, Sarwat Gilani, Nadia Hussain, Faakhir, Noor Zafar Khan, Saraah Khan, Shaveer Jaffery, Sidra Iqbal, Dino Ali, Nomi Ansari, Hasan Ahmed, Sunita Marshall, Hina Altaf and Hina Bayat amongst others.

The theme park is a live experience of snowfall and some fun slides and rides to enjoy the winter vibes. The most intriguing aspect of the park for me was the temperature, which is -10 degrees Celsius. The temperature is also kept as low as that since the park exhibits different kind of sculptures (like the characters from the Ice Age movies and monuments), rides and slides, igloos and rooms all carved in ice. Overall, it’s like a frozen playground where you can chill (literally) with your family, friends and kids. Moreover, this trip requires the attendees to layer up along with the jackets and gloves (provided by the park) to ensure you enjoy the experience and not freeze!

The CEO of Winterland, Mr Sharjeel said, “We have worked tirelessly and wholeheartedly to shape a real life-like one of a kind winter experience for everyone. We were pleasantly surprised with the turn-up and the response of attendees at the launch event and can’t wait to open doors for the public!”

If you have never experienced freezing temperatures and are planning trips to such areas, a visit to this theme park would give you a taste of that!
