He may have nailed the role of Joker and should get an Oscar for his performance but at the moment Joaquin Phoenix isn’t thinking of the Oscar but what part he can play in making things better – as he said during his Globes acceptance speech.
So, it is not surprising that the high profile actor was arrested at Jane Fonda’s Climate Change protest. The latest protest drill also included hundreds of people as well as other prominent names such as Martin Sheen, Maggie Gyllenhaal and Susan Sarandon.
Variety reported, “Since October, Fonda and other actors, including Sam Waterston, Ted Danson, Rosanna Arquette, Sally Field and Catherine Keener, have been arrested for civil disobedience, as they advocated for a Green New Deal, among other demands.”
But this week, Phoenix turned up and also delivered a small speech, standing next to the iconic Jane Fonda, who called him “one of the greatest living actors today”.
During his brief speech, Phoenix said, “Something I think isn’t often [times] talked about in the environmental movement or in the conversation about climate change is that the meat and dairy industry is the third leading cause of climate change. I think sometimes we wonder what we can do in this fight against climate change and there’s something that you can do today, right now, and tomorrow, by making a choice about what you consume.”
