Sajal Aly starrer Mom performs well in China

Sajal Aly’s Bollywood debut, Mom, alongside Sridevi in which she stars as the latter’s daughter, released in India almost two years back and generated a lot of praise. The film recently made it to cinemas across China and, according to reports, it has made more money than any other Bollywood film (Andhadhun, Hichki) running there.“Mom debuts at No. 4 position at China Box Office [opens better than last month’s AndhaDhun],” tweeted Indian film critic Taran Adarsh. The critic also shared later that the film did not only open to decent numbers but also generated good numbers over the weekend, overshadowing Rani Mukherjee starrer Hichki. “Mom is trending better than Hichki in China,” he posted, adding that it remains to be seen if it has a consistent run like Hichki. “Mom has a healthy weekend in China. Although trending better than Hichki [opening weekend: $ 4.21 million], it’s important that Mom maintains the pace on weekdays. Friday $ 1.68 million, Saturday $ 2.22 million, Sun $ 2.06 million. Total: $ 5.96 million [ 41.81 crore].” Aside from Sajal Aly and Sridevi, Mom stars Adnan Siddiqui in the role of Sridevi’s husband while the cast also features Nawazuddin Siddiqui and Akshaye Khanna in key roles. The film follows the story of a mother, essayed by Sridevi, as she struggles to prove her love to her stepdaughter (Sajal) and vows to punish her rapists when the law fails to do so.
