Lunar witnesses

This refers to the letter, 'One people, one date' (May 13). The problem is that one man is bent upon making us celebrate Eid on the same day as Saudi Arabia. This month he declared Monday (May 6) as the first day of Ramazan even though astronomical calculations predicted that the moon would not be sighted anywhere in Pakistan on May 5.I'm sure that even after the proposed scientific calendar is launched, Mufti Popalzai will find witnesses to prove that it is invalid.Shakir LakhaniKarachi
