Kachrachi bags Award of Merit at the Global Shorts competition

We reported last week that Pakistani short film, Kachrachi, will have its worldwide release on YouTube on May 3. It seems like the short film even before its release is creating buzz.It recently won the prestigious Award of Merit at the Global Shorts competition in Los Angeles. “We’re absolutely thrilled to share the news with everyone, Kachrachi the short film has made it to Hollywood! We’ve bagged the prestigious Award of Merit at the Global Shorts in Los Angeles, California. Congrats team Kachrachi!” read the post on the short film’s official Facebook handle.Global Shorts is an international competition based in Los Angeles that recognizes outstanding films with run-times of 50 minutes or less. It attracts works from filmmakers around the world, some of whom go on to earn nominations and awards in such prestigious competitions as the Golden Globes, Cannes Film Festival, BAFTAs, and British Independent Film Awards.Directed by Ali Mehdi, the short film follows the story of a homeless madman, essayed by artist Nazar Ul Hasan, who won the Best Actor award at the Mumbai Shorts International Film Festival (MSIFF) 2018. A combination of the Urdu word kachra (trash) and the city Karachi, the title, Kachrachi, depicts social issues that go ignored. This is not the first time the short has won an award. In the past, it won the Award of Commendation at Canada Shorts - Canadian & International Short Film Festival 2018. The screenplay of the film is co-written by Ali Abbas Naqvi, who also wrote the screenplay for the 2019 feature film, Laal Kabootar, directed by Kamal Khan.
