Riding high on the success of acclaimed short films Bas Ek Piyali Chai and Nanu Aur Main, young filmmaker Ali Sohail Jaura has another exciting project up his sleeve. He is gearing up for his fourth short film – titled Dry Leaves – that, according to the director, will be different from his previous efforts.“This is our first short film which is entirely black and white,” the director told Instep. “We shot it at 4:3 aspect ratio.”Ali Sohail Jaura also informed that Dry Leaves features veteran actors Duradana Butt and Samina Ahmed in pivotal roles. It follows the story of two elderly women, as they share a room in an old people’s home.“Such an honor to work with another two classy veteran actors of our industry, Samina Ahmed and Durdana Butt,” he posted on his social media, along with the film’s first poster that released on Mother’s Day earlier this month. “This one is really different from all the shorts that we have done before. Dedicating this one to all the mothers.”The film also features newcomer Safia Bhalaisha in an important role while the poster is designed by the very talented Umair Najeeb Khan. Produced under the banner of Family Films, Dry Leaves is currently doing the festival circuit and will be released online probably next year.Speaking of Ali’s past shorts, Bas Ek Piyali Chai and Nanu Aur Main had a successful run in the festival circuit after which both were released on Iflix.
