A week of fierce beauty comebacks

beautyThere’s plenty to look forward to when the first days of spring/summer roll around. You get to put away those cosy sweaters and jackets and take out the cute tunics that have been collecting dust. But that’s not all: When it comes to our makeup looks, there’s something about warmer weather that takes our creative energy to a whole new level. Whether it’s the first flower you spot after a long winter, or the simple joy of being able to meet for brunch outside, spring just makes us want to play with colour, or do something we’ve never done before - and all the beauty trends coming off red carpets and runways recently reflect exactly that. Before we say too much, this week You! has rounded up the ones we’ve been heart-eyeing from the runway of a recently concluded fashion Showcase, so that you can jump on the trends before they’re everywhere... Keeping it traditionalFouzia Aman gracefully carries a traditional signature Chikankari ensemble from the collection ‘The Return’ by Image Fabrics. Complemented with a dewy look and a simple bun, the outfit is a play of modern silhouettes using traditional gotta work that is glammed up with chunky jewellery for dressier occasions. Colour me blackThe kohl eyes & berry lips in HSY’s ‘HSY Active’ were the highlight of the show with natural skin & bright face. Twisted braids & Hip Hop look made it different from the rest while maintaining its edgy & stylish streak on the runway. The collection put a fashionable spin on contemporary athleisure clothing and is created for the active man and woman with Ahmed Ali Akbar and Mansha Pasha as the showstoppers. Quirky & sassyInspired by pop art with a playful touch of contemporary and sass, 9Lines collection ‘Pop Kitschry’ features Nousheen Shah in a quirky outfit paired with a bold red lip and dramatic eyes. The top knot pulls the whole look together with the focus being the pop art on the outfit. Of subtle hues & shadesThe secret to a flattering no-makeup makeup look is choosing colours that work with the natural tones of the face—you can enhance those tones or go brighter or deeper. Rizwan Beyg’s ‘Pearlessence’, a collection that paid ode to the three decades that the designer completes in the fashion world - had a natural take on things. Also, soft waves and loosely tied hair accentuate the style of Beyg’s design theme. A retinue of assorted pearls with dainty thread embroideries dominated the collection, with the embellishments handcrafted by artisans living in Southern Punjab. The embroideries were splayed out on a monochromatic ivory canvas, with silhouettes flitting between tradition and modernity; lehngas, fitted bodices splaying downwards into mermaid skirts, hybrids of the trouser, the eternally classy kurta and the exquisitely tailored button-down shirt with oversized pockets were majorly seen on the ramp. A burst of coloursA smoked out liner isn’t only effortless but looks subtle and fancy both, depending on the choice of lip colour. Keeping things matte makeup wise, the vibrant colours and designs from Khaadi Khaas’ ‘Gypsy’ collection were a true example of contemporary feminine mystique. Formally trendy‘Reverdie’ by Zonia Anwaar featured a fun & trendy look for its silhouettes, which were a digital botanical brilliance in a cheerful riot of colour. This ensemble is aptly completed a fresh-faced makeup look with bold liner and a glossy nude lip. The half curls are also the perfect blend of casual yet formal. Contrasting huesOne of the most popular trends of the season is the coloured liner which can bring life to any simple look. Which was also the interpretation of Mahgul’s ‘Between Ebony and Ivory’; it brought out the spirit of contrast and harmony with its monochromatic aesthetic with minimal embellishment. Time to ‘Bejewelled’ Mona Imran’s pret line ‘Bejewelled’, which was a collection of demi couture, separates and coordinates in jewel tones. Here, Sunita Marshall channels subtle eyes & a baby pink pout to translate the bright jewel tones. With chunky hair accessories and slick back ponytail, her inner diva comes out with style & grace. The western wear in the collection included high waist and drop waist dresses with eye-catching fusion cuts, patterns and flares. While for the ethnic dresses, Imran brought asymmetrical bodices with brio skirts. The obsession continues...Although they are done to death, smoky eyes are classic & evergreen. Whether it’s dark black and silver shades or subtle brown and bronze hues, Neelo Allawala’s collection channelled a darker eye that suits just about everyone. The sultry eye-makeup really pops when paired with a glossy nude pout and that is exactly what we saw in Neelo’s diverse and classic style of ensembles which were modern & chic. Also, the hair accessory such as organza ribbons knotted to low ponytails gave a light & fresh summer feel to the entire look. Here comes ‘Jhirki’From clothing to accessories to beauty, the metallic trend is shining in full swing. Wardha Saleem’s ‘Jhirki’ featured a far more sophisticated trend (than glitter) of metallic eye shadows. A little more eye-catching than matte, shadows in shimmery gold, silver and jewel-tones added a luxe accent to the overall makeup look. Glossy lips, metallic jewellery and slick back hair brought life to Saleem’s antiquated crafts and techniques of the sub-continent with special focus on hand-wood block printing. The collection showcased bespoke hand block and screen prints on pure silks, organza and chiffons with heritage embroideries and multiple age-old techniques on modern silhouettes.
