Director (and actor) Sarmad Khoosat roped in the relatively unknown music group Saakin to design the music for his upcoming film, Zindagi Tamasha. The band scored a beautiful rendition of ‘Sik Mitraan’, which was the first single to release from the film.
As Saakin told Instep earlier, the soundtrack will contain two songs featuring vocals. After the unprecedented success of ‘Sik Mitraan’, Saakin has returned with ‘Zindagi Tamasha Bani’ where the band is responsible for producing the music but do not feature on the vocals.
The title track is, instead, performed and composed by Nimra Gilani with lyrics by Khwaja Pervaiz. The music video paying homage to veterans Wajahat Attre, Afsheen, Khwaja Pervez, Mumtaz and the “golden” days of Pakistani cinema.
Speaking to Instep about producing a song minus Saakin vocalists and producing a feminine voice, Usman Shakeel from the band noted that Nimra Gilani – who is making her public debut with the single – is the wife of Saakin band member Ali Hamdani. He reiterated that the idea to have a feminine voice is something Sarmad, director of the film wanted as well and the lyrics by Khwaja Pervaiz were chosen by him just the same. This goes to show the vision Sarmad has for the film including its sound, music and lyrics.
“Nimra has been singing for long but this is her debut. This song was also selected by Sarmad and is an old song from 70s or 80s Pakistani film,” explained Usman.
He further added, “The picturization that is going on – behind the singer – is actually from the original film and the original song.”
“When we went about making this track, we gave the opportunity to Nimra and she made the basic structure of the melody and Saakin wanted a feminine voice for the film, because of the nature of the song and its sound. Nimra lived up to expectations.”
Usman confirmed that six soundtracks minus vocals are left that will make up the rest of the sound for the film and they are produced by Saakin as well.
– Zindagi Tamasha is scheduled to release nationwide on January 24, 2019
