Ni chile ma? (Have you eaten yet?)

food festival

In a country where the traditional way to greet someone translates to ‘have you eaten yet?’ (ni chile ma), be rest assured, the food will be extraordinary. China has the most popular culinary heritage in the world. The history of their cuisine dates back to about 1000 years with varied cooking styles, techniques and ingredients that have evolved over time. Especially in Pakistan, Chinese immigrants brought along the taste of their food to our country. They developed a delicious fusion of two cultures that is popular to this day.

Recently, a two-day Chinese cultural and food festival was held at a local hotel in Karachi. Mr. Chen Xiaodong, Acting Consul General of the People’s Republic of China was the Chief Guest and inaugurated the festival. The event offered Chinese dining on one platform, hosting 30 plus food stalls, live music, fun-filled activities and much more! It was a well-attended event by celebrities and socialites. The first day session was hosted by Ahmed Godil and the second day session was hosted by Rafia Rafiq and Bilal Khan.

The vibe of the festival was vibrant and fun. It not only featured variety of food that we love but there were many fun activities too. There were live musical performances by Raeth Band, Nimra and Ali Raza that enthralled the guests on the first day. Whereas, on the second day, the performances featured Ali Asad, Sherry Raza and Ali Raza. The visitors were also treated to traditional dances and fireworks. Free boat rides, and kite flying at the sea front was available for all. Attended by hundreds of food lovers over the two days, the festival was as much appreciated for its food variety and taste as for the nonstop fun it offered both days.

All in all, it was a lovely two days where the two nations shared friendly ties through a variety of flavours.
