Mehwish Hayat snaps back at Tarek Fatah for not fact-checking

In a recent turn of events, a video clip from Fahad Mustafa and Mehwish Hayat- starrer Load Wedding went viral on social media after Pakistani-Canadian journalist and author, Tarek Fatah posted it on Twitter, thinking that it was a real-life event.

Fatah tweeted the video and wrote, “Pakistani mother slams the door shut in the face of Polio workers. Screams at the two female volunteers. I will never ever allow my children to take these drops.”

The video clip showed a few polio workers going door to door distributing polio vaccine. However, a woman starts shouting at the worker, saying that she will not get her children vaccinated for polio.

What Fatah didn’t know was that it was a BTS clip from Load Wedding and that one of the polio workers was in fact Mehwish Hayat, facing away from the camera.

The Chhalawa actress was quick to respond. “Thank you for giving your two cents on the matter but please verify the source before posting next time,” tweeted Mehwish. “This is a scene from my movie Load Wedding with me playing the polio worker and that woman being an actress. Through the film, we were raising awareness of the issue and I’m glad to see our performances were so convincing,” she added.

Though Fatah didn’t admit his mistake, he deleted his tweet after Mehwish’s response.
