Lahooti Melo 2020, a cause-based festival that takes us inside Sindh every year is coming back this month.
Spearheaded by Saif Samejo, just like last year, the 2020 edition of the Melo is being held in Jamshoro, a quiet university town but after holding it in Sindh University previously, it is being held at Mehran University from the 17 to 19 of January.
The theme of the festival is #EcoNotEgo and therefore the speakers and the panel sessions reflect that.

Dr Gulnaz Anjum, Asst. Professor of Social Psychology in the Department of Social Sciences and Liberal Arts, IBA is among the speakers as is Anthropologist, Mome Saleem, who is a policy researcher & development practitioner. Her research interest has primarily been to study social aspects of sustainable development at policy level.

Musician, part mystic-part poet, singer-songwriter Ali Hamza is also among speakers at this year’s edition of Lahooti Melo 2020, who stated, “With every iteration of such experiences sporadic as they may have been, I have only ‘received’ confirmation of my own trajectory. I just hope and pray that I have the strength and capability to stay on track.”
As for performers, more names have been added such as Babar Sheikh, a filmmaker, musician and audio-video installation artist. Other (new) performers include the Marval Group; Arieb Azhar, a prolific musician, writer, producer, cultural promoter and a pioneer of contemporary Sufi music in Pakistan, who currents heads T2F in Karachi. In addition, other confirmed performers include Fareed Ayaz and Abu Mohammad Qawwal and Brothers, Sanam Marvi, Kaif Ghaznavi, Salamat Sohrab, Taj Mastani, Suhaee Abro, Bhagat Bhooro Lal and Akber Khamiso Khan. Whether Ali Hamza will take the stage is a mystery at this point but we hope he does as do The Sketches, who have just released their new record, Saanjhi.
