Public art mural for IPAF 2019, inaugurated in Karachi

As part of the International Public Art Festival (IPAF) that is scheduled to take place in the first quarter of 2019, I Am Karachi (IAK) launched the first public art mural. A creation of renowned Italian muralist, Giuseppe Percivati, the mural has been painted on GSA House Building in Karachi and was inaugurated last week. It is the first life-size canvas of 2300 square feet in the city, which is now open to display for general public.The mural is a tribute to the people of Karachi and aims to encourage them to take pride in public art within the city and promote it.“The mural is a gift from the people of Italy to the people of Pakistan,” Ambareen Kazim Thompson, Executive Director of IAK shared at the inauguration ceremony. “I hope that this installation and IPAF will serve as a harbinger of positivity; depicting a peace-loving and vibrant side of Karachi, not just to the rest of Pakistan but to the rest of the world.”The project is a joint effort of Consulate General of Italy, Karachi Port Trust, I Am Karachi, GSA House and Berger Paints Ltd. Those who were in attendance at the event included honorary dignitaries, diplomats and renowned artists, who endorsed cultural ties between Pakistan and Italy through this initiative. Consul General Italy Ms. Anna Ruffino, Chairman KPT Mr. Jamil Akhtar, President of IAK consortium Mr. Amin Hashwani, Commissioner Karachi Mr. Iftikhar Ali Shallwani, MD of GSA House Mr. Mohammed Rajpar, Chairperson IPAF Mr. Jameel Yusuf S.St and curator of IPAF Amin Gulgee were some of the prominent personalities present at the event.
