‘Jashn Sahwan Ka’ festival to open on 11 July at NAPA

A contemporary theatre festival, ‘Jashn Sahwan Ka’ is all set to commence at National Academy of Performing Arts (NAPA) later this week. Opening on July 11 with a play called Light Out, the festival will run till August 4 and will feature four theatre plays in total. Each play will be performed on four consecutive days every weekend during the total course of the event.A major highlight of these plays is that they will feature a new generation of artists including actors, directors and writers while the themes tackled in these productions are also relevant to present times. The four plays include Light Out (July 11 – July 14), directed by Fawad Khan, that is more of mystery thriller and will keep viewers engaged till the end. Next in line is a play called Heer (July 18 – July 21), a modern interpretation of Heer, which has been directed by Zain Ahmed and retells the iconic love story from a feminist perspective. It was performed at NAPA earlier this year and generated rave reviews. The other two plays include Dead End (July 25 – July 28) by Sunil Shankar and Pooja (Aug 1 – Aug 4) by Uzma Sabeen. The former is an adaptation of David Mamet’s masterpiece Glengarry Glenn Ross and revolves around real estate agents who are trying to survive in a brutal, competitive and dishonest market while Pooja is a musical love story with a twist.‘Jashn Sahwan Ka’ aims to promote creative expression in the performing arts and nurture a society that respects and supports artistic expression – a mission NAPA is working on for years.
